‘Man Of Steel’ May Lead Into ‘Justice League’

“So much for that idea” is what I found myself saying after reading a report stating that Zack Snyder’s upcoming ‘Man of Steel’ movie may in fact lead into the planned ‘Justice League’ film, akin to the likes of Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ and that whole universe. It seems odd, this revelation, after it was said that the ‘Justice League’ film would be the opening act to a new DC franchise of comic-based movies – where Marvel had set up ‘The Avengers’ over a span of many years with films like ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Thor’, DC was said to reverse that plan and put out ‘Justice League’ followed by individual character films.

Zack Snyder also (vaguely) admitted to talks with the studio about the future ‘Justice League’ film when talking to the New York Post, and whether or not his Superman would be included in said film,

“Um, how can I answer that? […] I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.”

Big spoiler? Why even put those words together if something wasn’t in the works?

It seems odd, anyway, that Warner Bros. would go through the hassle of A) putting an ‘Avengers’-style film together in such a short amount of time, and B) trying to re-cast the just-rebooted Superman? Having Cavill portray Superman in ‘Man of Steel’, only to turn around and cast another person as DC’s infamous hero is not only confusing to audiences, but a messy way of doing things in general. Not to mention the other casting jobs they have to do by 2013, in order to have the film out by 2015 – Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (lest they get Ryan Reynolds to star as that hero again, which would spell doom for the movie before it even premiered). Personally, I’d love to see Christian Bale return as Batman for the culmination film – but the odds of that happening are slim to none, even though Chris Nolan is producing it and David S. Goyer – who wrote the screenplay for ‘The Dark Knight’ and the story for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ – is writing the screenplay for ‘Man of Steel’ as well. It seems almost possible that we might see a Batman cameo, but it seems mostly improbable given Nolan’s comments on the future of Bale’s Batman.

Whether it’s a simple nod to the future or an outright hero and/or villain cameo, it seems as though we all should expect some hinting at the ‘Justice League’ movie come the end of ‘Man of Steel’. A trailer for ‘Man of Steel’ is said to be attached to ‘The Hobbit’, which will be released next month, and ‘Man of Steel’ itself will be released next summer.
