Rumors Flying That ‘Justice League’ Villain Is Darkseid

Darkseid

By Dale Lavine

Warner Bros. just won’t quit leeching off the success of ‘The Avengers’. As we previously wrote, Warner Bros. has announced plans to release the ‘Justice League’ film in time to compete with the sequel to May’s smash hit ‘The Avengers’. Apart from the obvious reason of you have done absolutely nothing to lead up to such a film, we’ve also covered why this is a terrible idea. Now reports are coming in that the villain for the new ‘Justice League’ film will be the great villain Darkseid (pronounced “Dark-Side”), one of Superman’s greatest foes.

Let’s get this straight: The ‘Justice League’ film is planning on using a great, big, brooding character as the central villain? That’s odd, I swear the sequel to ‘The Avengers’ was planning on doing the…exact…same……oh.

Of course, it would make sense. With ‘Man of Steel’ now being reported to have some kind of tie-in to ‘Justice League’, and Darkseid being one of Superman’s greatest enemies, it seems like an ideal choice for a villain. However, it also seems just too easy – almost like a copout, and most certainly a reflection of Warner Bros.’ own way of saying “Hey! Look at us! We can be cool too!” while stealing ideas from Marvel.

Odd tidbit of fact for readers: In a collaboration between DC and Marvel, titled Amalgam Comics, Thanos and Darkseid merged into one almighty brute named “Thanoseid”. While there is absolutely no hope of ever seeing DC and Marvel to a collaborative movie together that would tie such characters together, it seems like that’s what they’re (and by “they”, I mean Warner Bros.) trying to do.

Thanos? A big, bulking baddie from space that fights an entire team of superheroes. Darkseid? A big, bulking baddie from space that fights an entire team of superheroes. What else do they share in common? Well, take a look below to find out.

ThanosAndDarkseid

Tell me I'm wrong.

Similar outfits. Similar skin colors. Similar physiques. It’s almost like they’re making this movie to compete directly with the plot of ‘The Avengers’ sequel in hopes that viewers might get the two confused and accidentally stumble into a showing of the ‘Justice League’ film, eventually detracting from the overall box office numbers of ‘The Avengers’.

Either way, they’re in for a flush – and not the royal kind. So far, we’ve seen poor planning and too much haste to put this all together, and the news of basically stealing the physical threat of Thanos from ‘The Avengers’ in the form of Darkseid is not only poor taste, but piss poor judgment as well.
