Vampire Diaries Season 4 & Supernatural Diary Fails

vampire diaries

Last Thursday, October 11th, The Vampire Diaries Season 4 premiered on The CW. The show centers around Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who has attracted the attention of two vampire brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). The trio live  in a small Virginia town called Mystic Falls that is haunted by all types of supernatural beings, including vampires, werewolves, and dopplegängers. Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries begins with Elena waking up after her accident and learning that she must become a vampire herself or she will die.

Now, many fans may not know this*, but the producers of The Vampire Diaries tried out quite a few other types of supernatural diaries before landing on the current formula. Here are some of the pitches that failed:

Supernatural Diaries That Failed

  •  The Gremlin Diaries: This sitcom features a plucky young gremlin named Dortle who lives in a crack in the floor and plays nasty tricks on the humans who live in his house. Frankie Muniz was rumored to have been interested in the part of Dortle but The CW backed out 30 days before the pilot was scheduled to be shot.
  • The Centaur Diaries: This emotional drama follows the life of a centaur named Ginger struggling to fit into a small conservative town. The tear jerker finale ended in Ginger winning the state track meet and gaining the respect of her high school classmates. This idea was eventually shot down on the grounds of production value being too high.
  • The Chupacabra Diaries: This crime thriller follows Detective Laura Miller, a goat who becomes obsessed with catching the murderous chupacabra that continues to terrorize her city. The controversial pilot featured a gruesome scene of the chupacabra killing Laura’s fiancee and was shut down in preproduction by PETA.
